New Saredren Wells LP

LOUISVILLE IS FOR LOVERS artist SAREDREN WELLS is releasing a new 8 song LP on May 11th as a joint release with LOUISVILLE IS FOR LOVERS/RINEHART RECORDS. the LP comes with a 4 post card set and a free digital download coupon. the album can be pre-ordered now at LOUISVILLEISFORLOVERS.COM and it's a limited edition of 500, so you should probably do that now.
you can also hear the title track there as well.
here is the press release from the SAREDREN WELLS headquarters:
Hey! You!
How's this for exciting! This coming Saturday the 27th at 2 PM Saredren Wells will be kicking out a not-to-be missed/dissed ear-X-tacy in-store performance.
And why would he do that, you ask?
Well, for lots of reasons:
Reason #1.)To celebrate the fact that he and the Fabulous Mr. John King will be putting out his first album together. That's right, you heard it here first folks. "Memories are Hunting Horns...," Mr. Wells's debut, will be released jointly by Louisville is for Lovers and Mr. Wells's Rinehart Records. The album will be released on vinyl(a limited edition pressing of 500), possibly on CD, and most definitely online(through various sites). The release date for the physical record is set for May 11th, but John will be taking pre-orders for the album right about now(should be up on his site before the weekend's out), both through the Louisville is for Lovers website AND at the in-store performance. So please, be a deer and reserve your kind self a copy!

Reason #2.)EarXtacy is awesome and they need some community(that's us) love. That's one of the main reasons John and I wanted to "go all in-store" in the first place. We've all been thinking it I'm sure, but I'm kind of a doer and definitely a genius so I went ahead and suggested it to Sean Bailey, hero of local music heroes--I hit him up on his cell and said something like "you guys should start doing tons of in-stores, to get people in the building." His response: "Good idea. You do one." Then me: "Okay." And that was that. And then we shook hands like two big grown business men probably would/do. The rest is history people.

And lastly, but of course not leastly...
Reason #3.)Louisville is for Lovers is ALSO totally awesome and it/the main man John King could ALSO use some support. I mean the guy's made a dozen records that have featured practically every band that has ever played in this cock'a'mamey town. And he's all over that giant billboard off I-64. What's not to like?

So hey, long story short--come out and support some good people doing some good things.

P.S. All attendees of the in-store performance will receive a 2 song album preview. And it's free! Can't beat that, right?
P.P.S. The day of the in-store(Sat. March 27th) all Louisville is for Lovers titles will be $1 off. Dig it!

RIP Mark Linkous

On March 6th at 1:20pm in Knoxville TN, Mark Linkous, better known in the music world as Sparklehorse, lost his life. witnesses said after a period of fighting depression and drinking heavily he was visiting friends when he walked into an alley and shot himself in the heart with a riffle. his family quickly backed up the suicide theory by releasing this statement "It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There's a heaven and there's a star for you."
Personally, the work of Mark Linkous has been an inspiration, with his work as Sparklehorse (it's a wonderful life being one of my favorite albums of all time), and his collaborations with masters such as Tom Waits and Danger Mouse. last year he released an album of collaborations with Danger Mouse and David Lynch called Dark Night Of The Soul.
read our review of Dark Night Of The Soul here. download DNOTS here (it's okay, Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse released this album free to the public just because they love us.. it's a brilliant album and costs you nothing so go on already, you won't regret it).
-We Will miss Mr. Linkous dearly.

JC Denison photographs/music at highland coffee

JC Denison does a lot. he's heading down to SXSW with lucky pineapple at this very moment. (Lucky Pineapple does a lot. they have a new split 7" coming out on Karate Body this spring, and a track on the Sonablast comp Lullabies). he is also churning out some nice work with his other band Another 7 Astronauts; you can find a nice track on louisville is for lovers X. and on top of all this, he is showing a collection of artwork this month at Highland coffee, called Music for Photographs. every image comes with an accompanying music track (with listening stations around the store). below is his artist statement:
MusicForPhotographs JCDenison/AnotherSevenAstronauts
Thank you for taking the time to look at these photographs and listen to this music. My intention here is that they reflect each other: the music provides an auditory representation of the photographs; the photographs offer a visual interpretation of the music. To achieve this I would listen to these pieces while I edited the photos or look at the pictures while I mixed the music. Each was to slowly affect the outcome of the other through a system of slow and constant change. Several “listening stations” have been provided so that you may experience both. While each is intended to complement the other, you may choose to enjoy either on its own.
the collection will be up through march.
Have a listen...

Photo Review: Citizen Cope @ Headliners 2010.03.03

I'm not much for words lately and more on a visual kick which is much more normal for me. It worked out quite well as I was at many time speechless at the power Clarence Greenwood of Citizen Cope had over his fans! They were attentive and latched on to his every lyric. There's something about Citizen Cope that's so organic, so folky yet hip-hop funky at the same time... It's late and I'm rambling; I'll just let my photos do the talking... enjoy.

woodrow on the radio at Magnolia

It seems WOODROW ON THE RADIO is continuing his search for the perfect place to park his week night, real live version of his popular WFPK radio show, WOODY'S ROAD HOUSE. recent stops include MONKEY WRENCH and Vernon Lanes on thursdays, ending on New Years Eve. He is now giving The Mag Bar a spin on Monday Nights 9pm-3am. We can't think of a better place for the JUKE JOINT OF THE MIND than the home of THE BEST JUKE BOX IN TOWN. come out next Monday, March 8, and support ol' Woodrow, and maybe he'll stick around for awhile.
