Follow the Train - Featured on theLiveCast EP #3

On the 24th of last month we saw our very first Follow the Train show. We were impressed to say the least. With the movie Red Dawn projected behind them and little plastic army animals parachuting from the sky, Follow the Train blew the crowd away with their new lineup.

Our friends over at theLiveCast were there recording the whole thing for others not fortunate enough to make it out. theLiveCast is a group that attends local concerts, records them if the band allows and presents them in podcast form. They just released episode 3 last night for download. Or you can subscribe to their Podcast in iTunes.

Here are some shots of the show. (Click photos to Enlarge)

VietNam Live @ EarXtacy

Brooklyn natives VietNam will be appearing at Ear X-tacy Sunday April 1st @ 4pm. If you don't know who these guys are yet, do yourself a huge favor and check them out. The best way I could describe them would be Kings of Leon/Hold Steady/Dylan-ish (kinda sorta).

Here is what the Washington Post has to say about them:

VietNam are four good friends who affectionately make up a loosely defined family in the communal comforts of Brooklyn, living together in the same house with an open door headquarters aesthetic. "Driving, psychedelic rock…sometimes trippy, often catchy and always captivating."-WASHINGTON POST

Listen:

VietNam - Mr. Goldfinger
VietNam - Priest, Poet, & The Pig
VietNam - Step On Inside

MMJ - Same in Any Language (Alt version)

Cameron Crowe's 2005 film Elizabethtown produced two soundtracks. Both volumes feature a track from My Morning Jacket. Volume 2 has "Same In any Language" listed as preformed by Ruckus (Which is MMJ). Volume 1 also has the song "Same In Any Language" preformed by a band called I Nine, who have a female vocalist. However the version I have, has MMJ performing this song on Volume 1 instead of I Nine. This track has less reverb and is almost 30 seconds longer than the version that appears on Vol 2. Its very possible that I may have miss-tagged this song somewhere along the way. However, if that were true it still does not explain where this version of the song originated. Hopefully someone out there can clear up this mystery for everyone else. Here is this mystery version (until we figure it out).

iConcertCal, sweet iTunes plug-in.

Ever sift through Pollstar for hours trying to see if your favorite bands were coming to town soon? This cool new iTunes plugin makes that a thing of the past. It compares your iTunes library to upcoming shows and creates a calendar with all of your favorite artists on it. Oh yeah, and its free. Download it from the developers site here.

My Morning Jacket - Live in Salt Lake City

January 11th, 2007, The Depot, Salt Lake City, UT...
a much requested MMJ show that hasn't made it's way around yet. I'm still unsure who the taper was so I'll just post the mp3s for now.

In the envelope, I also received a video of the Jam portion of Lay Low recorded by Brian Steely. The video is super clear and captures the MMJ concert experience perfectly. Thanks for the show and sharing your video Brian!

Update:
I swapped out the audio from the original recording with the audio from the mp3 version and upped it to youtube.

Tuesdays are for Rocking.

Most Tuesdays are boring. Normally if you asked me what I did last Tuesday, I would be stumped. But, If you ask me next week what I did, I will surly be able to tell you, as this Tuesday was one I wont soon forget. By the time Your Black Star took the stage I had completely forgotten about everything, including what day it was. It wasn't until lead singer Jeremy Johnson reminded everyone, by thanking them for coming out on a Tuesday. Thats when I realized how good the music must have been that rocked the Pour Haus tonight. Even if it was just another Tuesday.

The show was kicked off promptly after the doors opened by People Noise.

Mont De Sundua

Before the days of My Morning Jacket, Jim James fronted another band called "Month of Sundays". Apparently this band has some old material that was never released, until now. Being released under the name "Mont De Sundua" on May 22nd, the album was produced last year by Kevin Ratterman at the Funeral Home.

Listen:
Window is Broken - Did You Bury Yourself Again?

This isn't a new moniker for the since dissolved band, on their first LP "Did You Bury Yourself Again?" the name was printed on the reverse of the sleeve. shown below (with my dog). You can hear a couple of the tracks at their myspace page.

And while I had my vinyl out here's a few treats for you. The inserts from the album.
