WFPK's upcoming Waterfront Wednesdays concert series includes special guests Jonatha Brooke, Gram Bel Fisher and local band Cabin.
Cabin will be celebrating the release of their new EP. You can buy it at Ear X-tacy or on the Machine website and I'm sure it'll be in the merch booth at the show.
In retrospect, here are some photos from April's Waterfront Wednesday with The Last Town Chorus. We also did an interview last month with Megan from The Last Town Chorus if you happened to miss it, read it here.

Mont De Sundua New Album Press
Jam Base - Pre MMJ-Album Coming
"This Louisville, KY band, formerly known as "Month of Sundays," was founded in 1992. This album was recorded above the Cadillac Studio- Shelbyville, KY in 1998, mixed at the Funeral Home by Kevin Ratterman and Mont de Sundua in 2006. Why did it take almost ten years to release these songs after they were recorded? We don't know, but we're damn glad they got around to releasing it!"
Pitchfork - Jim James' Pre-My Morning Jacket Band Unearthed
The belated self-titled sophomore album was originally recorded in 1998 with help from former MMJ member Johnny Quaid. It is due out May 22 via James' own Removador label, and it will be available in record stores across the U.S.
Rolling Stone - Rock & Roll Daily
Back in the day (1992) My Morning Jacket’s Jim James was in another band called Mont de Sundua. And now, all these years later, the band’s previously unreleased, self-titled sophomore album is finally coming May 22 via James’ own Removador label.
Harp - Before My Morning Jacket: Mont de Sundua Album Due
Based in Louisville and originally known—in the decidedly more emo-ish-sounding English language—as Month of Sundays, the band formed in the early ‘90s and mustered an album and an EP during its lifetime. Band members were James on guitar/vocals, Ben Blandford on bass and Dave Givan on drums.
I am Fuel, You are Friends - Monday Music Roundup
You may have seen the little mention over on Pitchfork this past week about the unearthed sounds of Jim James' pre-My Morning Jacket racket in a band called Mont de Sundua. I am enjoying the off-kilter spacey thump of this track from their album that was recorded back in 1998 and never released. It's going to be out this year and it sounds as if they were having a lot of fun when they made it. Even if they do look like they are livin' the thug life in that picture from their MySpace.
Velocity Weekly - Early Sunday
The band's rock was sometimes edgier and almost always more emo than Jacket. The pizzeria shows were intense, but the only stage -- er, pit -- effects were dimmed lights and the band's performance.

Purchase from Ear X-Tacy $10.99
and all Think Indie Stores.

Post Derby Friday, done right!
After the 2 week long Derby mega-festival, Louisville's not closing down to recuperate. She's up and kicking with a packed friday evening. Two friday events we're highlighting are a pre-game performance at Louisville Slugger Field by globe trotting local rockers, Your Black Star. The concert begins at 5:30 pm right before the Bats take on the Syracuse Sky chiefs at 7:05 pm. You can get in the park for as cheap as $7 to see the show.
Shortly after the Bats take the field, Follow the Train is playing a show with Minnow and Kangaroo at 8pm on the Roof of Louisville Glassworks on West Market. This will be the first show since cold, cold February that Follow the Train have played Louisville. They had a mini tour of some of the southeastern states; two nights of which opening for My Morning Jacket at the 40 watt in Athens Georgia (which we were lucky enough to get to see)
We're also stoked to get to see Minnow and Kangaroo for the first time as they have some killer tracks on their myspace pages. See you there!

The Slow Break/Wax Fang @ Pour Haus Photos
Last Thursday night The Slow Break and Wax Fang played the Pour Haus. It was a great Oaks eve show with The Slow Break opening the night with some raging rock. As the room started to fill, the temperatures would only increase. When Wax Fang took the stage, the place had to be 90 degrees and as the evening went on it only got hotter. Wax Fang put on a killer set with projections reminiscent of your middle school history class and Katie Fox from The Slow Break joined the band on stage to play AC/DC's TNT. Albeit a weeknight, the lack of sleep/hangover on Friday morning was well worth it. Photo links below...
Kentucky Fried Pickin' from Bearno's
It was Derby eve at Bearno's by the Bridge and as usual, Kentucky Fried Pickin' put on a couple great sets; they never fail to please a crowd. There's something special about the Bluegrass genre that gets your feet tapping and your head moving. It often inspires folks to pull our their dancing shoes and put on their best eastern Ky face and cut a rug out on the floor. I've been to quite a few KFP shows and never have I seen so many people get out and start dancing.
Below are some pictures from Friday night, thanks KFP!
