SXSW shows broadcast on WFPK

Once again we're writing about something kick ass that FPK is doing for us... Starting tomorrow, WFPK will broadcast two sets of music from South by Southwest. Below is the schedule that includes a set from local favorites My Morning Jacket. Judging by the setlist (and videos from breakfastontour.com) on Monday's Houston show, we'll be getting to taste some of those new songs from the forthcoming album "Evil Urges".

(from wfpk.org)

Wed., March 12 (Stubbs)

9 p.m.: Jonathan Rice – Rice strikes a balance between independent and mainstream pop, drawing on the likes of Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, The Band, Joni Mitchell, and Gram Parsons. Further North feels more rough-hewn than the dramatic psychedelic pop of his debut.

10 p.m.: Summerbirds in the Cellar - “The layer-upon-layer-upon-layer rock of Summerbirds in the Cellar’s ethereal vocals, blasting guitar, marching drums, and serene synth lines is enough to make me scream, cry, and bellow into the night, thanking God, Jah, Allah, and Yahweh for the opportunity to bear witness.”- Rolling Stone

11 p.m.: Papercranes - If you’re inclined toward mind-alteration, taking the edge off, stewing in your own juices, there is good news on the music pipeline: A beautiful dose of Gainesville, Florida by way of New York, LA and the Great Beyond. The ambient psychedelic pop of the Papercranes bring on a perfect buzz that will let you operate heavy machinery and explore the dark side without getting drowsy.

12 a.m.: Dead Confederate - Arguably the most sonically powerful act in the burgeoning psychedelia- dosed scene in Atlanta, GA, Dead Confederate may represent a harbinger of a new rise of psychedelic rock. The South has produced some of the most eclectic rock ‘n’ roll ever recorded; James Brown, Stax Records, Allman Brothers and R.E.M. are all products of the mysticism of the South, and Dead Confederate is one of the first southern bands to pull southern rock into the realm of modern music.

1 a.m.: R.E.M. - Accelerate is the fourteenth studio album from R.E.M. and is available on April 1 in the U.S., with an international release on March 31. Join Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills as they broadcast live from Stubbs and share some songs from the new release!

Thurs., March 13 (Austin Music Hall)

9:15 p.m.: The Whigs - A year ago, Rolling Stone called The Whigs “the best unsigned band in America.” With ink like that and the band’s trademark ear-blistering live shows, it wasn’t long before Dave Matthews’ ATO Records took notice and signed the group to a multi-album deal. The Whigs’ first record, Mission Control, has drawn comparisons to both Nirvana and Superchunk. They’ll showcase some of their songs from their latest album.

10:30 p.m.: Yo La Tengo - Indie rock heroes Yo La Tengo are known for confounding expectations with each new album — sometimes it’s organ-based moody pop-rock worthy of Burt Bacharach, sometimes it’s a long, droning, guitar-god freakout. On their best albums, it’s both. Their latest CD lives up to its curious title: I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass.

12:00 a.m.: My Morning Jacket – Louisville’s own live from Austin Music Hall. Maybe we’ll get a sneak listen to some of the music on their new release due in June!

Pictures from Leap Day's Pour Haus show

Great show from Adventure and the Fervor last friday at the Pour Haus. I'm sure The Slow Break was great too I just couldn't stay up any later to see them, maybe next time...
As at least two other photographers from the area have agreed, the pink/red lights at the Germantown bar produces reds in pictures that can't be tamed. I have since decided to make all my Pour Haus shots, black and white, I hope you enjoy.
Some photos are below and the full set is here.
