Review: Halloween

Well, it was a long weekend, and hopefully for you filled with mountains of miniskirts and naughty nurse costumes. as you may well know, i spent most of the last 2 weeks dreaming of wedge heels and kitty ears, and i did indeed see plenty of the sort, though mostly they were waiting in long lines out front of nite clubs.
My Halloween started at a coffee shop, trying to talk one of the baristas into some short shorts and heading off to a party with me. this did not happen.. but it did set me back an hour and by the time i made to The Cave, the show was over. The Cave is an underground cavern on Lexington Road owned by Artist Mike Ratterman, and occasionally has music and art events. On saturday Joe Manning, Joan Shelley, and The Spirit of the Red City played. and from all accounts, it was a fine time.
After that i headed over to The Dead Bird Studios, run by Dave of Cabin. Cougar Express, Dangerbird, and The Bad Reeds played. well, by the time i got there the neighbors had punched someone and the show abruptly ended. but from what i hear, The Bad Reeds were on fire, this is the second time i barely missed them play, and will not make that mistake next time.
From there it is only a hop skip and a jump to Zanzabar, so i headed over there. but apparently so did everyone, there was a line around the block, and it wasn't moving. I'm sure the PJ Harvey and Joy Division sets were very fun, as no one inside wanted to leave.
So, i decided to pack it in, it was after two, and i successfully missed about half a dozen bands i wanted to see. on the way home i did happen upon a Sailor Moon pissing in a parking lot. So all was not lost.

TONITE! COUGAR EXPRESS, DANGERBIRD, BAD REEDS 10/30

tonight is the night! there is tons to do, and hopefully a lot of wedge heels and panty hose, and i can think of no better place to see furry animals in undergarments than at the Dead Bird Studios (2200 Crittenden Drive) Halloween party with Cougar Express, Dangerbird, and The Bad Reeds. There promises to be a lot of "filthy songs everyone is too scared to admit they love" and other surprises. so throw away every part of your costume that isn't absolutely necessary and head down to the sexy end of Germantown.. because it's fucking halloween time!

girls in panties wearing kitty ears: what's happening for Halloween

It's been the saving grace for Ladies since the dawn of time.. showing off those get-away-sticks is pleasing for everyone, but no one wants to labeled a harlot.. so one magical day every year,  women can dress as slutty as they want (as long as they don furry animal ears, or a nurse cap) without worrying about other women saying something snarky.. they will mind you, but it doesn't count, not on HALLOWEEN!!
so dig out your best lacy panties, and for my sake, some wedge heels with the long straps, because Halloween is almost here!
for the family:
-Bardstown rd. boofest, all day on Oct.23 on Louisville's favorite shopping strip.
-victorian ghost walk @ 4th st on Oct 29
-World's Largest Halloween Party at the Zoo. oct.21-24, 28-29. (it's dark, you don't see any animals, and you walk the entire time,  but kids love it)

for Audut(ery)s:
-Cougar Express, Dangerbird, and The Bad Reeds @ Dead Bird Studio Oct. 30th 9 pm $5 (Dangerbird is sure to marinate those britches before Cougar express shreds them...)
-The Big Rock Show at Dutches Oct. 29 (these dudes know how to shred... through your favorite 90's power ballads).
-Halloween Biker Bash Ball @ Expo Five on Oct.23 (i have no idea what this is, but it sounds like a can't miss)
and there's always 4th St live

review: Cougar Express at Glassworks

just about anything on top of the glassworks building equals a good time, and when the music is something worth hearing it makes the view that much more worth while.
on Friday July 23rd Dangerbird, The Instruction, and Cougar Express hauled they're battle axes up 9 stories and slayed a max capacity crowd behind the backdrop of the mighty Ohio.
Dangerbird started the night with their patented Stones+Pine Club sound, which is actually a good combo, added with frontman Brian Grey's between song banter, there is no wonder they have a loyal following.
The Instruction followed with what their manager, Cory Greenwall, described as a "Vhs or Beta" related sound. actually i think they more sound like a Smiths + Suicide with a 16 candles kinda feel. even though i never had really gotten into the whole electro-dance resurgence, i did enjoy it. but what really knocked my hair back was the way too loud, and strangely sexy Cougar Express. these boys were so loud that people on the street a block away followed the sound to the roof like a snake to St. Patrick.
They have been making waves around town lately, and it's no wonder with their dueling axe solos like Black Sabbath and Fog Hat beating each other to death in a heart shaped bed with satin sheets. this distorted sultry sound in no short way draws in the peeps, as well as more high heels and shorty shorts than i've seen in a long time. this may be to the band's 'dirty pretty boy' look and front man John Burke's sexy nerd appeal (think if Bun E. Carlos and Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick had a baby). and as no surprise, there was more real live cougars there than at ladies night at Jim porter's.
Guitarist Bob Scott says he has no idea why the cougars started popping up to their shows, and that the name Cougar Express and the Cougar outpouring is a coincidence, and the name was supposed to just sound super american. either way, they have the sound to melt panties, and that sound doesn't care who's panties they are.

Shotgun Fest 6/26

the 4th annual shotgun fest is this saturday in good ol' Germantown; home of shotgun camelback! this is usually a pretty good time, and easy on the wallet too; but with less public nudity than the Schnitzelburg fest.
this more family friendly Fest kicks off at noon on the corner of Schiller and Kentucky ST with a blast from the past: Monkey Boy and keeps going until nine with Tamara Dearing, Squeeze Bot, Heidi Howe, John Gage, C+, Lotus Blake, PRAIRIE WISDOM, and Your News Vehicle.
but just as exciting is the annual after party at Nach Bar, kicking off at nine with The Deloreans, Cougar Express, and The Zero Element.. also FREE! So, pack your pockets and purses with plenty of Natty Light and get down to Germantown.
