Wax Fang Joins Removador

Jim James' record label Removador Records and Solutions has announced that Wax Fang is the latest band to join the label's roster. The band will release an epic track "The Astronaut Part I". Those who caught Wax Fang at Forecastle should remember the song. I know it will feature the theremin and Cheyenne Marie Mize, so how bad can it be, really?

The track is one half of the forth-coming digital EP "The Astronaut", which is due out early 2011. You can hear teasers on the band's removador page and download the 17-minute track Tuesday the 19th. Or tune into 9.19 WFPK on Thursday the 14th at 10pm EST to hear the world-premier of "The Astronaut Part I" accompanied by an interview with Scott Carney.

Prepare for LIFTOFF!

Follow the Train is Back!

It doesn't seem like all that long ago that I was at this band's "final show". It was a blow out at Headliners well-documented here in January. However, the boys are back, good for them and good for us! The dustbin of Louisville music has claimed many great Louisville bands so it's good to see one of these bands make a comeback, even if they didn't go that far.

Follow the Train actually reemerged this summer with a digital-only release on Jim James' Removador Recordings and Solutions. The latest manifestation of Follow the Train will begin their musical adventures at the Rudyard Kipling on October 15. Lydia Burrell opens the show.

If you don't check out the recordings on the previous post, at least take in this cover of "Final Countdown" to get an idea of the rocktastic fun we've been missing since the "final show".

Removador Debuts Lydia Burrell

Yim Yames' record label, Removador Records and Solutions, released the debut album of producer Alexander Smith, under the moniker Lydia Burrel. I haven't heard the album but My Morning's Jacket's frontman is known for championing great music by under appreciated artists.

Here's some of what the press release said:

The album is a juxtaposition of richly detailed electronic production and his earnest voice. Aside from recording and production assistance from Yames and another friend, Ben Mundane, the collection of songs is a DIY affair, entirely the product of Smith's creation.

Smith had been writing and performing music since high school. His interests led him eventually to pursue a masters degree in music theory and composition from University of Louisville... He has spent the last eight years building, tuning, and maintaining church pipe organs. "It's stimulating to work with your hands and satisfying to play a part in how an enormous and complex instrument sounds," says Smith. "I think it's helped me to understand and appreciate the craftsmanship and process of building things."

You can download an mp3 and order the album here.

Follow the Train's Final Performance... documented!

Alright, nearly half of 2009 is over and we here at 37 flood have been a little shy, we're sincerely sorry for that but real life pops up from time to time and eats into your fun. This same thing happend to Louisville's beloved Follow the Train. The band experienced an exodous due to founding members moving on with their lives in fall 2006 but reformed again early in 2007 with only one remaining member Dennis Sheridan and a powerhouse of new "Train"ees!

We were able to see Follow the Train most ever time they played here in town and even a couple dates in Athens, GA opening for MMJ and not one time did they leave me ungrateful for seeing them. On January 2009, FTT played their last show at Headliners Music Hall and our friend Mr. Brian Porter gratiously taped the show with his superior audience recording gear. He also introduced me to a recording of the band's first show together in early 2007 at Lisa's Oak Street Lounge.

We've got some photos and the mp3s here for your viewing/listening enjoyment, thanks go out to Dennis, James, Mike, Carlos, Justin, Brandon and Dave for all the good shows and allowing their shows to be recorded by fans as well as Brian P. for taping it. Enjoy and I know that I hope to one day see the Train back on it's rails again!
