Edgehill Avenue and Lauderdale @ Zazoos

Hold on to your seats for a
blathering of streets cities, states and even a few
names... I promise, it should make sense...
This coming February 9th at Zazoos in St. Matthews, presents local alt country/roots-rockers Edgehill Ave. and Lauderdale, all the way from Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
The guys from Edgehill Ave. have been in the studio as of late and will likely be debuting a few new tunes to dig on.
Lauderdale, of recent Paste Magazine fame are on a short tour to share their music with Nashville and Louisville. We have been talking with Corey from the band for a while about coming up for a show and thanks to Edgehill Ave, it has become a reality.
We'll be reminding you closer to the date but go ahead and mark those calendars... for now, here's some tunes to check out and if you want to pick up the bands' cds before the show, options are below the mp3s.

Murals this friday @ the BBC in Theatre Square

Locals Jacob Weaver (Guitar/Vocals) Evan Blum (Bass) Rob Monsma (Drums) form the band Murals and have been the subject of our blog a few times in the past. Their sound is beyond their years as these college kids seem to have been practicing in their basements since infancy. When we first saw them around a year ago, the polish was already there and they only needed a larger audience; sometimes this city tends to cover it's ears to new things.
Do yourselves a favor and open your ears this Friday; Murals play downtown at the BBC on Fourth Street. $5 cover (these guys deserve it!)

Upcoming show at the 9:30 Listening Room

Lucky Pineapple with Abner Trio and Virgin Flame

~text from ~
Thursday, January 10, 2008 @ 8 p.m. / 7:30 p.m. doors / All ages / $5 cover

Lucky Pineapple describes themselves thus: “six people, six points-of-view, a schizo-suicide of stylings and sounds.” Equal parts math rock, jazz fusion and even a small dose of indie-pop make Lucky Pineapple a unique collective for the literate mind. The band members seemingly contribute their respective parts equally to create a refreshingly original, unified sound. Look for the band to be featured on the forthcoming Louisville edition of the Burn to Shine film project alongside other great Louisville artists such as Will Oldham, Shipping News and Liberation Prophecy.

For fans of: Tortoise, Devo, The Flaming Lips, Miles Davis

Indianpolis band Abner Trio have been accused of being “extremely off-kilter indie-pop for fans of shifting time signatures and spoken word wisdom.” A fair assessment whittled down to one sentence, but the Abner Trio are much more than a sentence neatly sumarized. In fact, they’d also likely be accused of unconventional sentence structure and the occasional run-on, experimenting with their own way of writing and arranging, carving out a niche occupied by few more than themselves.

For fans of: Pavement, Sonic Youth and a mysterious place called the Midwest

NYE Extravaganza Review

Last Monday Wax Fang joined forces with the Danny Glover Cover Band at the Pour Haus for a New Years Eve extravaganza. The Fang did as they promised and didn't play a single original song, instead, they gave us great covers of "ABC" by the Jackson 5, "Nothing but a G Thing" by Dr. Dre, "Careless Whisper" by George Michael and "Sabatoge" by Beastie Boys to name a few.
As the night progressed, the band went from tuxes to t-shirts to bare chests as you'll see in the photos below. I had a little difficulty with my MiniDisc recorder as it failed to recored onto the second disc I put in, but I did manage to get a decent recording of the first hour or so.

I have posted the recording to the archive so you can stream it by clicking the play button below or right click to "save as" for future listening. Enjoy!
